About Me
- Name: Conservative Apikoris
- Location: Antarctica
Readers should use their discretion regarding the veracity of personal stories told by this blogger. I'm a male human who lives in a large Jewish community in an English-speaking country. Because I'm a pillar of my synangogue, I'd like to keep my identity private,as there could be personal reprecussions. I grew up in Conservative Judaism, went to Conservative Hebrew School, and have been an active member of Conservative congregations for over 20 years. But lately, I've been questioning everything about Conservative movement and even Judaism in general. I want to share my thoughts, but not with people I know, who I'm afraid will not honestly help me, but rather try to bring me back into the fold.

I find the story somewhat hard to belive. The I looked at your profile:

It's an entertaining story, at least
At the University of Judaism we have, among the undergraduates, a lot of Latino students who claim converso blood. It is definitely a trend among thoughtful Latino kids, although the veracity of such claims has been questioned by scholars. The lighting of candles in the closet has become a big urban legend. Although, pax your disclaimer, I can't be sure if you made that part up.

"Carlos," the Latino guy who davens at our minyam has never claimed converso blood. He says he converted to Judaism because he was never satisfied with the answers to religious questions he got from the nuns at his school. And he did recently find out that a classmate of his, who he has not seen for decades, also converted to Judaism.
We get enough of this, and maybe Mexico will become the next Jewish state! :)
